Here are some sites I've run across in my
limited travels around the web. They are in no particular order,
but they are in some kind of order. Follow all the links, not just
the major ones. And check back often as this page will probably change
the most of all the pages on this site. Criticisms,
comments?
Project Denny's: It was purely by accident (actually it was a link in WIRED magazine) that pointed me towards this site. And I'll tell you what, this guy is passionate about Denny's. Even if you're not it's worth your click as this site is done very well and is quite entertaining. |
The Neverhood: This is a site dedicated to the promotion of the first computer game based entirely on clay models and sets. I was turned on to this game by a friend who has a site dedicated to the band whose master mind scored the music for the game. So where's the passion here? All you have to do is play this game for a few short moments and it becomes obvious that its creators are passionate about what they do. And here's my two cents worth - if you get the game or if you have it, don't be tempted to look at the hints. If you spend enough time with it, you'll figure it out! |
The Internet Movie Database: For those of you who might be passionate about movies this is a great site to visit. They have just about any movie you've ever seen in their database including actors and other cast members. And there's links for the major actors in each film so you can see what other films they were in and with what other actors they may have worked. It is truly a wealth of information. |
|
The Adventures of Beowulf: Here is an enjoyable, readable, (and best of all) online translation of what is regarded as the earliest work of English literature still in existence. I have to admit that I have a weakness for anything of this genre so when I found this site I was quite pleased. I invite you to draw close to the hearth, pull up a cup of mead and lose yourself in this fascinating and timeless tale of monsters, heroes, and the cold north. |
Weather: Here are two sites that I use on occasion to keep up with the current weather. The first is the Interactive Weather Information Network hosted by NOAA. Here you can find the text for actual watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service. The second of course would be The Weather Channel. 'Nuff said. |
|
Air Travel: Here are two sites that I have used on occasion to help me search through the myriad of airfares for domestic and international travel. Far be it from me to tout anything done by Microsoft, but Microsoft Expedia has actually helped out quite a bit in locating low cost flights for business and personal travel. Although I haven't actually used the Wholesale Travel Center to purchase tickets, they have been an effective tool for comparing airfares. |
UK Street Maps: Speaking of travel... if you might find yourself in the UK sometime soon, check out this site. It offers detailed street maps of just about any place you can think of to visit (or live?!) in what is my ancestral home. (Yes! These are two different links.) |
Into the Wardrobe: The C.S. Lewis Web Site: Speaking of the UK... this site is dedicated to a most prolific author of allegories and works of theology. I would consider him one of the great minds of this century, if not ever. You say you don't know who C.S. Lewis was; by all means, please, go take a peek... into the wardrobe. |
Lambert Dolphin's Resource Files: When we say "resource" we mean "RESOURCE!" This site is the home page giving access to Lambert Dolphin's Library. Here you will find an enormous amount of information regarding many topics pertaining to the Judeo-Christian faith. I can sometimes find myself envious of someone who has the knowledge, dedication and time (i.e., passion) it takes to put together so much fascinating information. But I warn you, don't go there unless you have a lot of free time on your hands. |
Chick Publications: One of the clearest memories I have from childhood is how I would read and collect what my father called "Chickee pubs". You may have seen them, they're the little comic book style tracts from Chick Publications. Well imagine my surprise when I discover that a number of these tracts are online and ready for viewing. Of course there's much more to Chick Publications than just comic books... go see for yourself. |
|
Worship Resource Center: Speaking of resources... this site probably won't mean much to most of you. But I joined their list server for a short period as I find myself leading worship these days at a local VCF (two links) where I live. I soon got tired of reading through nearly 100 messages on Monday morning so I dropped off the list. Anyway, if that's what you do, this site is outstanding. If not, that's fine, scroll down please. |
|
Quantum Mythology and the Tao of Massage: I forget exactly what led me to this site, it may have been a search on WKRP. Anyway, if you have an open mind and you feel like reading for about 20 minutes, then click on the fish of your choice. |
UFOs, Aliens & Antichrist: The Angelic Conspiracy & End Times Deception. What a mouth full. Speaking of lots of reading... if you happen to like truth mixed with fringe ideas and opinions take a look at this site. But once again, be prepared to do a lot of reading, and a lot of discerning. |
MIB (Men In Black): This is a phenomenon that has captured my interest as of late. It could be that it was previously unknown to me, or that some of the eyewitness accounts seem so incredible. But please, do not be misled, my interest has nothing to do with the recent film of the same title. The info on the Bureau 13 site is interesting, but the write-up on the Paranormal Project site is truly fascinating. Also check out the MIB occurrences related to the Mothman incident which took place in and around my father's home town. |
Brazil F.A.Q.: No, not the country, the movie. What? You say you've never seen Brazil? Out of my face you pig-dog! (Did I say that?!) Really though, without question, this is the finest film ever made. Yet the question is, which version is the best? (Okay, okay, I know what you're saying. Maybe there are a few things about which I am (mildly) passionate. But my point is about "PASSION" which is much more than simple enjoyment. After all I don't spend my every waking moment developing a web site... or do I?) |
|
Buckaroo Banzai F.A.Q.: Okay, so you haven't seen this film either. I'm starting to worry about you! But never fear, if you can't find a copy of this great film from the early 80s which starred Peter Weller, Christopher Lloyd, John Lithgow, Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Barkin, Vincent Schiavelli among others, then just read the script. |
Olestra/Olean Haiku Page: Do you remember when there was all the fuss over Olestra and what it would do to you if you ingested it? I discovered this site back then, and it's still going strong today. But I warn you: it has been known to be offensive to the easily offended, so if you are one of them then please, do us both a favor and don't go there. Thank you and, God bless. |
Urban Legends Reference Pages: If you are one like so many today that get all of these hard to believe stories and reports of strange quotes from top goverment officials in your email inbox, then you should certainly take some time to investigate this site. When you first discover that many of the stories you thought were strange yet true are revealed to be fabrications you might find yourself asking, "So who do I believe?" But it seems to me that the authors of this site have done their homework -- and, you might find it even harder to believe the stories that are indeed proven to be true. |
Obiwan's UFO-Free Paranormal Page: It was a dark and stormy night... oh, sorry. At this site can be found an immense collection of ghost stories archived from the alt.folklore.ghost-stories newsgroup. I try to find time now and again to keep up on my reading here, but new stories seem to be added more often than I can stop by. I'm in the C's right now, I'll let you know when I get all the way through. |
